Paul W. Lattimore oral history, 1965.

In this interview, Paul W. Lattimore shares his observations of the events and people involved in obtaining a sugar beet allotment for upstate New York. Topics include: strategies adopted to convince growers, businessmen and politicians of the feasibility of a New York State sugar beet industry; criteria used to evaluate companies to run the refinery; relationships between the New York State College of Agriculture, the Redevelopment Area Organization of Cayuga County (N.Y.), and federal and state politicians; the use of employees of Agway, Inc. to obtain sugar beet contracts from area farmers; plans to use the New York State barge canal to transport raw cane sugar to the Montezuma, N.Y. refinery; observations of the Finger Lakes Sugar Beet Growers Association; and his impressions of Henry Stack, Paul Aron, Charles Lavis, C. DelMar Kearl, and Samuel Stratton.
